 Program Objectives 

The objective of the Medical Office Specialist Diploma program is to provide the knowledge and the technical skills required for entry-level positions in the medical field. This program includes instruction in computerized procedures such as insurance, bookkeeping, word processing, and transcription. Prior to graduation, you are required to complete an externship that will give you an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in applying administrative and clinical procedures learned in the classroom. Specific duties of a medical office specialist may include responsibility for:

  • Insurance claims for both group and private practice insurance
  • CPT and ICD-9 coding
  • DRGS
  • Medical transcription
  • Accounts payable and receivable
  • Patient files and filing systems
  • Payroll and financial statements
  • Reception duties
